If you use a third-party payment provider instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a 2% transaction fee on the Basic plan, on top of whatever your provider charges. International and premium/Amex cards cost more than the standard rates above. In the US, Shopify lists premium cards at 3.5% + 30¢ and international cards at an extra 1%.

How the calculation works
Monthly cost = Orders × Payment fee + (Plan + Apps) × (1 + VAT on fees)
Effective rate = Monthly cost ÷ Monthly revenue

What fees does Shopify charge per sale?
With Shopify Payments you pay the card rate for your plan, for example 2.9% + 30¢ on US Basic. There is no extra transaction fee. With a third-party provider, Basic adds a 2% Shopify fee.
