How Whatnot seller fees work in 2026 (US)
Whatnot charges two separate fees on each sale:
- Commission: Whatnot's share, charged on the item price only. Buyer-paid shipping and sales tax are excluded.
- Payment processing: 2.9% of the total order value the buyer pays (item price, buyer-paid shipping and taxes) plus $0.30 per order in the US.
Since 21 September 2026 the US commission rate depends on your tier and the category. Your total sales across all categories in one four-week (28-day) period set your tier for the next period, and every category has its own rate within each tier. Live sales use the category of the show; marketplace sales use the category of the product.

Tier thresholds (total sales in a four-week period): Standard $0–$14,999; Tier 1 $15,000–$34,999; Tier 2 $35,000–$49,999; Tier 3 $50,000–$99,999; Tier 4 $100,000–$249,999; Tier 5 $250,000–$499,999; Tier 6 $500,000+. Custom rates as low as 3% exist only for Whatnot's highest-volume sellers on account-managed terms. Promotional rates (for example new-seller offers) override these while they run.
High-value orders: 0% above $1,500
In select categories (Comics & Anime, Toys & Hobbies, Coins & Money, Trading Card Games, Entertainment Cards, Sports Singles subcategories, Bags & Accessories, and Jewelry & Watches) Whatnot charges 0% commission on the part of an individual order's sale price above $1,500. Payment processing still applies to the full order. Sports breaks and surprise products are excluded. Choose "Yes" above to apply it.
Example
A $40 Fashion item in the Standard tier, with $5.99 buyer-paid shipping and no tax: commission is 8% × $40 = $3.20; processing is 2.9% × $45.99 + $0.30 = $1.63. Total fees are $4.83, about 12.1% of the item price. That's why the commission rate alone understates what a sale really costs.

FAQ
How much does Whatnot take from a sale in 2026?
In the US, Whatnot charges a commission on the item price (8% in most categories at the Standard tier, 4% for Coins) plus payment processing of 2.9% of the order total plus $0.30. Commission falls as your four-week sales reach higher tiers.
Does Whatnot charge commission on shipping?
No. Whatnot's commission is charged on the item price only. Buyer-paid shipping and taxes are excluded from commission, but they are included in the payment processing fee base.
How do Whatnot's commission tiers work?
Your total sales across all categories in a four-week period set your tier for the next four weeks. Each category has its own rate in each tier. A rate is locked for the whole period, so crossing a threshold lowers your rate from the next period.
What is the payment processing fee on Whatnot?
In the US, Canada and Australia it's 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction, charged on the total the buyer pays, including shipping and taxes.
Is there a lower Whatnot fee on expensive items?
Yes, in select categories Whatnot charges 0% commission on the part of an individual order above $1,500. Payment processing still applies to the whole order.
